TSA Precheck – the How and Why

January 31, 2017

We all know that flying comes with baggage – and with long lines, right? Well, what if you could switch out some of those long lines for shorter, more efficient ones?

This is exactly what TSA Precheck allows you to do. For $85, you can apply for a 5 year TSA Precheck membership. This generally means a quicker security line and you don’t have to remove the following: shoes, laptops, liquids, belts, and light jackets.

If you travel even twice a year, this is worth it, it is a big time saver. It is so refreshing to get to the airport and hop in the Precheck line that’s typically much shorter than the other lines. It’s not always a guarantee that it’s shorter, but the majority of travelers in the Precheck line also tend to be more experienced travels, so it speeds up the process, which is always a plus! In our experience, it’s been well worth the $85 for the convenience and time saved.

Be sure to double check the airline and airport prior to flying – not all airlines and airports accept TSA Precheck. You can check here: https://www.tsa.gov/precheck/map

The process is simple:

  • Apply online at https://www.tsa.gov/precheck
  • Schedule an appointment at an enrollment center
  • Appointment takes about 10 minutes and consists of background check and fingerprints
  • Once you have your Known Traveler Number, add it to your flight bookings
